GPA Calculator
Enter the credit hours and grade points for each course to calculate your overall GPA.
How to use the GPA Calculator
- Choose the scale your school marks on: 4.5, 4.3 or 4.0. The grade lists rebuild to match.
- Fill each row with a course name, its credit hours and the letter grade, then press the add button for another row.
- Press the calculate button to get the credit-weighted average.
P/F rows count for credit but not for the average
Every grade list ends with a P/F entry marked as excluded. A P/F row still adds its credit hours to your earned total, but contributes no grade points and stays out of the average.
| Grade | 4.5 scale | 4.3 scale | 4.0 scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.5 | 4.3 | - |
| A | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| A- | - | 3.7 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.5 | 3.3 | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 | 3.0 | 3.0 |
| C+ | 2.5 | 2.3 | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| F | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Rows without credits are skipped
Any row whose credit value is blank, zero or negative is ignored, so a half-filled row will not spoil the result. What you type goes into this browser's local storage on this device.
Frequently asked questions
My school uses a different scale.
Scales vary between 4.0, 4.3 and 4.5 maximums. The arithmetic is the same, so read the number against your own scale.
How should I enter the values?
One course per row. Type the credit hours in the middle box and pick the grade from the list beside it. There is no comma-separated field.
How is the average actually worked out?
Multiply each course's credits by its grade points, add the products, then divide by total graded credits. Three credits of A plus two of B on 4.5 gives 3.6.
Can I plan what I need next semester?
Add rows for the courses you are taking, set the grades you are aiming for and calculate again. Nothing solves backwards from a target.
Does it clear when I close the tab?
No. The rows and the scale reload from local storage on this device. Reset wipes them and leaves three empty rows.
