Remove Line Breaks
Joins multi-line text into a single line by replacing every line break with a space.
How to use the Remove Line Breaks
- Paste the multi-line text into the top box of the panel, however many lines it runs to.
- The joined single line appears in the box below as you type.
- Press Copy result to take the one-line version to your clipboard.
Breaks go, and so do runs of spaces and tabs
Each break becomes a space first, then every run of whitespace in the result is squeezed to one space and the two ends are trimmed. Double spaces after a full stop, indentation and tab characters all come back as a single plain space.
Why tab-separated data does not survive
A tab counts as whitespace here, so columns copied out of a spreadsheet lose the boundaries that made them columns and arrive as one run-on line. That is the right result for a PDF paragraph headed back into one cell, and the wrong one for a table.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to paragraphs?
Every break becomes a space, so paragraph divisions are lost along with the line wrapping.
Is this good for spreadsheets?
Yes. It is the usual fix for text copied from a PDF that breaks across many cells when pasted.
Are blank lines between paragraphs kept?
No. A blank line is whitespace like any other and collapses into the same single space, so paragraph breaks are lost. Split the text yourself first.
Does it also remove double spaces?
Yes. Once the breaks become spaces, every run of whitespace is reduced to one space and leading and trailing whitespace is trimmed off.
Can I join lines without adding a space?
No. Each break always becomes a space and there is no setting to turn that off. Close the text up afterwards in an editor if you need that.
