How to use the Unit Price Calculator

  1. Fill in Product A price and Product A quantity, using the same unit of measure for both products.
  2. Fill in Product B price and Product B quantity the same way.
  3. Press Calculate. The line gives the price per unit for A and B, then names the cheaper one.

One decimal place can hide the difference

Both unit prices are printed to one decimal place, while the comparison behind them uses the full value. Two items can display 0.3 per unit each and still have one named as cheaper. If your per-unit figures fall below about 1, enter quantities in 100 g units instead of grams.

When the lower unit price is still the wrong buy

Unit price settles the question only if you use everything you buy. A larger pack that spoils, does not fit your storage, or ties up money you need this week can cost more in practice than the dearer small one. Read the per-unit figure as one input, not the verdict.

Frequently asked questions

What if the units differ?

Convert both to the same unit first, whether that is items, grams or millilitres, or the comparison will be wrong.

Can I compare more than two?

Two products at a time. Run the winner against a third to work through a longer list.

What if both come out the same?

The result says Tie, and only on an exact match. A gap too small to show at one decimal place still names one product as cheaper.

Can I enter a discounted price?

Yes. Type the price you will actually pay. There is no percentage-off field, so apply the discount yourself before entering the number.

How do I handle a multipack of three 500 g packs?

Multiply before you type, so that goes in as a quantity of 1500. The quantity box takes one number and will not multiply pack count by pack size.
