Random Color Generator
Press the button for a random colour and its HEX code.
How to use the Random Color Generator
- Press Generate color. A swatch appears with its six-digit HEX code underneath.
- Press Copy result to put the HEX code on your clipboard. The swatch itself is not copied.
- Each colour joins the numbered list below, and Clear history empties that list.
Every 24-bit colour except pure white
The code picks a whole number below 16,777,215 and prints it as six hexadecimal digits, covering 16,777,215 of the 16,777,216 possible 24-bit colours with equal chance. The one code it cannot reach is #FFFFFF.
The swatch, the code and what gets stored
Copy result takes the six-digit code only, not the block of colour. The numbered list holds the last fifty in this browser on this device, so it survives a reload but goes no further.
Frequently asked questions
Is it useful for design work?
Yes, as a way to break out of habitual colour choices when starting a palette.
Can I save a palette?
One colour is shown at a time, but the numbered list keeps the last fifty in this browser. Copy any code you want to keep, since Clear history is final.
Are the colours spread evenly?
Effectively yes. Each press picks a whole number with equal weight, so all but one of the 16,777,216 codes are equally likely.
Can it build a matching palette?
No. Each press is independent of the last, and nothing ties several colours into a scheme. Copy the ones you want and set the relationships yourself.
Why do I never see plain white?
The highest value the generator reaches is one below pure white, so #FFFFFF is the only six-digit code it cannot produce.
