Pomodoro Timer
Work in Pomodoro cycles: 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5 minute break.
Focus time
Pomodoros completed: 0
How to use the Pomodoro Timer
- Press Start and the 25:00 focus block counts down; the button changes to Pause.
- At zero a short beep sounds and the timer switches itself to a 5 minute break.
- Pomodoros completed goes up by one each time a focus block reaches zero.
- Press Reset to go back to 25:00 with the phase on Focus and the count at zero.
What the completed count does and does not record
The counter moves only when a focus block runs all the way down. Pausing part way leaves it untouched, and Reset puts it back to zero along with the clock. Nothing is written to storage, so reloading the page loses the tally.
Leave the tab in front while it counts
The countdown ticks once a second from the browser's own timer, and browsers deliberately slow timers in hidden tabs, so a long spell in another window can leave the clock behind real time. The alert is a short tone, so a muted tab finishes in silence.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
A time management method that alternates 25 minutes of focused work with 5 minute breaks to sustain concentration over long sessions.
Can I change the intervals?
The cycle is fixed at 25 and 5 minutes. Reset and start again whenever you want to begin a fresh cycle.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
It keeps counting, but not always accurately. Browsers throttle timers in background tabs, so a long stretch elsewhere puts it behind.
Does it remember my count if I reload the page?
No. The clock and the count both start fresh on every load, because nothing is saved to your browser or to a server.
Is there a long break after four pomodoros?
No. It alternates 25 and 5 minutes without exception, so four pomodoros take exactly two hours. Take the longer break yourself.
