Image Format Converter

Convert several photos between JPG, PNG and WebP at once. Everything runs in your browser, so the files are never uploaded to a server.

How to use Image Format Converter

  1. Choose photos to convert. You can pick several at once or drop them onto the box.
  2. Choose the format you want: JPG, PNG or WebP.
  3. For JPG and WebP, set the quality slider. PNG is lossless, so the slider is not used.
  4. Press Convert. Every row shows the resulting file size.
  5. Press Save on a row, or Save all (ZIP) to download everything at once.

A whole batch in one press

Turning twenty blog photos into WebP is a single press. The photos stack up in a list, Convert handles them all, and Save all (ZIP) brings them down together. File names are left alone apart from the extension, so photo1.png becomes photo1.webp.

What changes when the file is drawn again

Each picture is drawn onto an off-screen canvas and encoded into the format you chose. The pixel dimensions stay the same, but EXIF metadata such as the capture date does not survive. An animated GIF or WebP keeps only its first frame.

Why transparent areas turn white in JPG

The JPG format has nowhere to store transparency. So when JPG is chosen, the canvas is painted white first and the picture is drawn on top. For a logo or an icon that needs a see-through background, choose PNG or WebP.

If the goal is a smaller file

Converting an already compressed JPG to WebP at high quality can make the file bigger. WebP being lighter is true when both are encoded from the original; re-encoding a JPG adds another round of loss and can add bytes. The percentage on each row shows what happened, so drop the quality to around 80 if a file grows.

When you need to hit a size, Compress Image and its target size are a better fit, and for a large picture Resize Image saves the most of all.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert several photos at once?

Yes. Choose a batch and one press of Convert handles all of them. Save all (ZIP) downloads the whole batch together.

Might WebP fail to save?

Nearly every current browser supports it. Where it is not available the tool says so, and you can pick JPG or PNG instead.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP keep transparent areas as they are. JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with white.

Which format gives the smallest file?

For photographs WebP is usually smallest, then JPG. For flat graphics and text, PNG stays crisp.

My JPG got bigger after converting to WebP.

Re-encoding an already compressed JPG at high quality can do that. Lower the quality slider to around 80, or use Compress Image with a target size.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Converting and saving happen entirely inside your browser.
