How to use the Rock Paper Scissors Online

  1. Press rock, paper or scissors. The computer picks at the same moment and the round is judged.
  2. The line under the buttons names both choices and says who took the round.
  3. First to two wins takes the match. Tied rounds are replayed and leave the score alone.
  4. Press the reset button to clear both scores and begin a fresh match.

The computer is not reading your pattern

Each round the computer draws one of the three options at random with an equal chance for each. It never looks at what you played before, keeps no record of your habits and cannot see your choice in advance. A streak that feels uncanny is chance.

How a first-to-two match splits

Set ties aside and every decisive round is a coin flip, which makes the match even overall. Half of all matches finish 2-0 after two decisive rounds and half go to a third and finish 2-1.

Frequently asked questions

Is it always three rounds?

No. The match ends as soon as someone reaches two wins, so it takes two rounds at 2-0 and three at 2-1.

What happens on a tie?

Tied rounds do not count and are replayed.

Can I start over?

Yes, the new match button resets the score.

Does the computer see my move first?

No. Its choice is drawn at random in the same instant as yours and before the result is judged. It has no access to your earlier rounds either.

Is my score kept between visits?

No. Both scores live in the open page and return to zero when you reload or close the tab. Nothing is written to your device.

Can I keep playing once someone reaches two?

Not without resetting. As soon as a match is decided the three buttons stop registering, so press reset to start a new match.
