Remove Duplicate Lines
Removes repeated lines from a list, keeping the first occurrence of each.
How to use the Remove Duplicate Lines
- Paste your list into the top box of the panel, with one entry on each line.
- The deduplicated list appears below straight away, the first copy of each line left in place.
- Press Copy result to take the cleaned list to your clipboard.
What counts as the same line here
Two lines are duplicates only when they match exactly, character for character. A trailing space, a capital in a different place or a stray tab keeps both copies. When a list still looks repetitive, the difference is usually invisible whitespace at the end of a line.
Blank lines and the order of what is left
An empty line is handled like any other value, so several blank lines in a row collapse into one. Everything else holds the position of its first appearance and no sorting is applied.
Frequently asked questions
Is the order preserved?
Yes. The first appearance of each line stays in place and later copies are removed.
Is it case sensitive?
Yes. Lines differing only in capitalisation are treated as different entries.
Why are two identical looking lines both still there?
Something invisible differs. A trailing space, a tab or a different capital letter makes two lines separate entries, because the comparison is exact.
What happens to blank lines?
They are deduplicated too. A run of empty lines returns as a single blank line, since an empty line counts as a repeated value like any other.
Does it say how many duplicates were removed?
No. Only the cleaned list is shown, with no count. Compare the number of lines before and after yourself if you need that figure.
